Developmental Play

Have you ever noticed how play has the power to bond, bond you to your sibling growing up, bond you to your teammates in college? In a very similar way, play is the great connector between us and our children. Not only is child-directed play vital to all areas of strong brain and body development leading to lifelong resilience, it is a sacred space where your child discovers her true self in relationship to you. What your little one craves from you is shared positive experiences based on his/ her point of view. This requires skill in playing at your little one’s level. With a little bit of practice, this will feel natural to you. Sessions are individualized to you and individualized to your little one. You will build your knowledge, your play skills and your “fun factor” from your little one’s perspective. The goals are to enjoy your little one through mutual discovery in the moment and in your every interaction while strengthening your connection and strengthening the life-long development of your newborn, infant, toddler and preschooler.

Developmental Play sessions teach you how to best nurture your little one’s exploration and learning styles, sensory experiences and preferences, patterns of signaling and communication, style of relating to you and to others, regulation of sleep-wake systems, as well as soothing-alerting systems at specific points along his unique developmental timeline. All of this is done in a playful, relaxed session with suggested toys and individualized take-home materials to guide your practice at home and on the go.
